Our Longest Day event for 2018 is now in the history books. We had great weather at the event this year. We started out with everyone arriving on Thursday and many going to dinner downtown South Haven. After dinner of course most had to head over to Sherman's for some famous ice cream. After the ice cream we all turned in for the evening to get some sleep and be ready the next morning for Gingerman Roadcourse. Folks started arriving at the track a little after 7:00am Drivers meeting at 8:30 with the track going hot at 9:00. We had 4 run groups with 20 minute sessions with everyone getting 4-5 sessions. The track shut down from 12-1 for lunch and went hot again after lunch finishing up the day around 3:30 with trophies being awarded at 4:00. After the trophies we had a group photo and caravanned to South Bend, IN. After a quick 30 minute freshening up most met at Eastbank Emporium, a new restaurant for our group this year. The food was good and everyone had a good time talking about the days event and what was going to be happening the next day. Saturday we were up early for breakfast and folks started arriving at Tire Rack a little after 7:00am. Several helped set up the tents and chairs, fans etc.The autocross was already set up for us by Tire Rack. A quick drivers meeting and the track went hot at 9:00. We had a nice size group of 28 drivers with many more spectators. We had 13 runs before lunch with breaking for lunch about 11:30 having Jimmy Johns subs, chips and drinks provided by our VOA of IL club. After lunch each driver was able to get in 7 more runs with a total of 20 runs. We finished up around 3:00 with trophies being awarded and the big dog trophy of Longest Day being won by Jimmy Walker. Congratulations Jimmy and all the other trophy winners. We all had a great day with all the heat and humidity but most importantly both days were completely rain free.
