Foot of snow, no big deal. Dead of winter, so what. Flu pandemic, whatever. You can’t stop the VOA
Illinois region from getting together and having a good time, no matter the challenges!
About 160 members and guests came together at the Marriot Schaumburg to enjoy an evening of
socializing, a massive number of door prizes, custom viper folders, a benchmark array of Viper
merchandise, 2017 achievement recognition, and a little entertainment. It was noted that Jimmy
Walker was the performance driving Triple Cross and Triple Crown winner, with Steve Anders taking the
top spot in the longest day in 2017. Mark Shuman, performance driving director, announced the rookie driver
of the year to be Jay Karson. Spirit awards were bestowed on those who participated in just about
everything in 2017, including Chris Bond, John Gastman, Ron Friedman, Randy and Tammie Mather, Paul
Krant, Larry and Nancy Friend, and David Livengood. Congratulations!
Gary Grube (VOA IL VP) stepped in to MC the event for our fearless leader and VOA IL President Rob
Buckman, who was recovering at home from surgery. The whole gang signed a poster for Rob to wish him
well for a speedy recovery. The evening wrapped up with a look back at the IL region video contest
winner from 2006 the last time the Viper nation was in Las Vegas. One person from each table was also
chosen to go home with the center pieces that were once again uniquely created by Howie Frank.
Rob and Bonnie extend their thanks for the club support and appreciate the numerous volunteers that helped
organize and execute the Winterfest 2018!
