This year's Viper Rendezvous was held on June 8-10 at Hasting Motor Sports Raceway in Hastings, Nebraska. Most arrived on Thursday for unloading and tech check for the cars so they were ready for the weekend. Thursday night we walked from the hotel to a Mexican restaurant for some food and headed to bed early for a good nights sleep. We started the morning with a 7:00a.m. driver's meeting and rolls and coffee.
We were divided into 4 run groups according to skill level. Each session was 25 minutes with 3 sessions in the morning, a provided lunch, and 2 more sessions in the afternoon on Friday.
Saturday was another early day with the driver's meeting at 7:00 again, some coffee, and back into the run groups. The track went hot at 8:00. Three 25 minute sessions for each run group then to a provided lunch, short break and then on to the Viper Cross. This is an autocross a little different than we usually do in our club as to where they use the whole 2.3 mile track for the autocross with a shot at hitting some cones. It is a really cool high speed autocross. After the Viper Cross there was one more 25 minute session for each run group and then some open track time. That evening there was a banquet with some prime rib and all the goodies to go with and a silent auction of some more viper goodies with the proceeds going to charity. Then the awards were held with 2 of our IL VOA members Jeremy Walker and Doug Campbell taking home a 3rd place trophy. It was a great couple of days and some chose to head home Sunday morning while some stayed and had a few more sessions.
Everyone had a great time and we are sure we will be back next year.
