Twenty seven club members and 14 cars spent the day together enjoying the “hot” weather together. We started our cruise by meeting most of the group at Woodfield Mall. We traveled to Air Classics Museum in Aurora and met up with the rest of the group. The Air Classics Museum is ran by veteran volunteers.
Jack, one of the WWII vets told us stories about the airplanes that were outside which were some WWII planes and some Vietnam planes. After the war, Jack worked for United Airlines till he retired.
There were a couple of Vietnam helicopters and we learned that Diane Frank’s brother was in one similar to what was on display. Diane, Howie, Matt and some others actually climbed into the helicopter too!
Once we went back inside we got to view memorabilia from 1930 to present which included uniforms,
newspaper clippings, and even an engine room. The day here at Air Classics started off very “hot” but
we soon cooled off quickly once we were back in our air conditioned Vipers and headed off to Two
Brothers Roundhouse for lunch. After a nice lunch we traveled a short distance to the Aurora Regional Fire House Museum. This
museum houses many artifacts of Aurora’s fire history including the building the museum is in which is the old fire house. There were fire badges, helmets, nozzles, axes, ladders, fire alarm equipment and
toy fire engines, an 1850’s hand pumper to a 1960s aerial ladder truck. They even had a kid’s room
where Enzo and Eileen enjoyed part of their visit! Many interesting stories of how the fire house is a
family were posted on the walls, including stories about new rookies, how the chief helps keep everyone safe during a fire, and about pulling pranks in the fire house. They also had an educational area where school kids can visit and learn fire safety. Very interesting place to visit!
After our time here at the Fire House we traveled over to WeatherTech’s factory display room. Here we
enjoyed some complimentary refreshments and some purchased products, maybe some great give
aways for club meetings??
After our visit to WeatherTech we traveled to dinner at Rock Bottom Restaurant and Brewery. We
talked about the day and what we were going to do for Father’s Day. Overall, had a great dinner and
then everyone headed for home.
Another great cruise in the books for our club. It was a great way to spend a “hot” day and enjoy time
with our Viper family. Hope to see you on the next cruise July 14!
