April 7 will be another day to remember for some club members! 35 club members boarded our mini-coach bus at Fuddruckers and headed to Tommy Gun’s Garage in downtown Chicago.
When we arrive at Tommy Gun’s, you wouldn’t know there was a little theater in the building. The flat brick building had no windows and had a steel door. We arrived a little early at Tommy Gun’s, figured out which building the theater was in, and Tommy Gun’s allowed us to wait in their hallway out of the windy cold Chicago air.
We were seated at our tables and provided water, soda and hooch. The cast of the theater were our waiters and they chatted with us about where we were from and asked questions about our IL VOA. The theater host, Vito, decided that VOA stood for Viper Owners Alcoholic of IL, everyone laughed! At the time of which we didn’t know, they were getting ideas on us and who to include in their show!
We were served a delicious meal and dessert and it was time for the show. They started with some 1920 songs, a little dance and a few jokes. We were told if the police sirens went off to cover our hooch or we could be arrested. Remember this was in the prohibition era! Then they started selecting a few members of the audience who actually had to dance with a member of the crew and our own Patty Wirth-Peterson was selected! Patty did a great job following along with the crew. A few more stories, more dances and then one crew member said his story was finally going to be broadcasted on PCOP radio! Again, one of our own members, Rob Buckman, was selected to play along and act like Groucho Marx! It was a funny skit and Rob did a great job!
When the tour was over our mini-coach bus returned us to our cars at Fuddruckers. Good thing we had a designated driver as some members might have had a little too much “hooch”! just kidding!
Another Great day in the city of Chicago! Maybe we’ll do a different kind of tour next year!
