Spring Cruise 2019
Saturday, May 11, started off as a cloudy day and quickly turned into a rainy day. But the first cruise of 2019 was an awesome day! We had 19 club members and with guests we had a total of 33 people on our Spring Cruise.
We started day by meeting in Oglesby and then traveled to Gary Miller’s Car Classic Museum in El Paso, right off Route 39. Gary has a small collection of muscle cars, roadsters and classic muscle cars but he specializes in reconstructing old cars back to their classic condition! He also had lots of die cast cars, trucks, road art, memorabilia and vintage items. He’s having his first auction on June 15. We ordered Subway sandwiches and Gary was nice enough to let us have lunch in his show room!
After lunch we headed over to Home Away Homes for a building construction tour. Home Away builds modular sections to a home or an apartment building in an enclosed environmental friendly area. We were shown how the module is started and moves along an assembly line, like a car, and different parts are added on the line. After each module is completed they are wrapped in plastic and shipped off to their location site where assemblers put the modules together. There were also 3 model homes available for us to go through and you could not tell they were modular homes!
After our home tour we headed to club member Chuck Riggert’s farm where he has a collection of many cars, tractors, fire engines, and at least 3,000 toy tractors, trucks, trains and many collectables! Chuck’s parents used to own an event center back in the 60’s where they held weddings or special parties and had Sunday brunches too. Chuck and his family have most of their 3,000 collection nicely laid out in this event center. Chuck even has a rocket that he built and shot up in the air, pretty cool! After viewing all of the collectables, we headed over to Chuck’s home where there were more tractors and cars stored. He just recently purchased a DeLorean for his son too! Chuck and his wife Sandi were great hosts for us on this rainy day!
After all of the walking around and looking at many things, we headed over to The Barn iii dinner theater, a comedy, Nana’s Naughty Knickers. This show is about Bridget and her grandmother who are about to become roommates. What Bridget saw as a unique opportunity to stay with her favorite Nana in New York for the summer quickly turned into an experience she’ll never forget. Her sweet Grandma is running an illegal boutique from her apartment, selling hand-made naughty knickers to every senior citizen in the five borough area! And on top of the great show, there was a Mother’s Day Tribute “Hats Off to Mom”. We all had hats to wear, some brought enough for others, thank you Sheryl, and 6 of our ladies won prizes! Customed Engineered, Kathy Grube; Theme, Jordan Pieczynski who had a race track and little viper cars on the hat; Scarey, Gail who had a real snake skin snake on her hat; Elegant, Patty Wirth and Carly Schutte and Linda Watson who had a 1920 style from Rome. We all enjoyed a great dinner and show and most everyone headed back home. A few couples stayed the night and then we had breakfast out for Mother’s Day!
First cruise was rainy but enjoyable and ended with a great dinner and comedy theater show!
