We started our day by meeting at the Belvidere Oasis on I-90 West and travel to the Historic Auto Museum in Roscoe, IL
The museum is more than cars, there is 80,000 sq ft of exhibits including the world’s largest collection of Presidential and World Leader’s Limousines, a collection of Gangster Era vehicles, Elvia Presley display and memorabilia, TV Land cars and cars from hit movies, WW2 artifacts including uniforms, maps, swords, etc. The exhibits are changed on a regular basis. We have been to this place before like 10 years ago and it’s a really nice museum with lots of cars and memorabilia.
After visiting this Historic Auto Museum, we headed to lunch at Bravo Pizza & Italian Restaurant where the pizzas were waiting for us because we had a short time frame to get to the mining museum.
The Bevans Lead-Zinc Mine and museum are the largest museum interpreting the mining area and preserves the heritage of southwestern Wisconsin. First we took the one hour guided tour of the mining area, you must be able to walk down 90 stairs! The tour took us through over 100 years of local lead and zinc mining history. After touring the mining area, we took a ride on the outdoor mine train through 3 acres of the museum campus. Our train was pulled by a 1931 Whitcomb locomotive..
After climbing 90 stairs down into the mine and walking around the mining museum, we stopped at the Rafters Restaurant in Lena, I for dinner.
Another great cruise in the books. See you on the next one.
